First They Came…

“First they came …” is the poetic form of a 1946 post-war confessional prose by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984).

First They Came Poem

Niemöller in May 1952

It is about the cowardice of German intellectuals and certain clergy—including, by his own admission, Niemöller himself following the Nazis’ rise to power and subsequent incremental purging of their chosen targets, group after group. Many variations and adaptations in the spirit of the original have been published in the English language. It deals with themes of persecution, guilt, repentance, and personal responsibility.

Of the many versions of the poem to be found online the differences are so minor that, they in no way detract from the message Martin Niemöller wanted the world to know.
The message is a warning, a warning from Time, evidenced throughout History, and what was intended by Niemöller to be a warning for Humanity and its future generations, has in fact turned out to be a prophesy, the warning having long since expired.
Here is the version we have chosen from online sources, which has been displayed on a gravestone:

What we are witnessing play out in real time in several countries around the world is exactly what Martin Niemöller warned us about, or as is now the case, prophesised.

This is what was always going to happen when Humanity’s indifference to History and learning the lessons opens the door to tyranny and its all too willing cohorts.

It is all there in real time and in plain sight from around the world where tyranny is showing its hand with little to no opposition from shadow governments, as the tyrants purge their chosen targets including: Their own citizens, local businesses, the free and Independent media, as well as the finances those who exercise a democratic yet opposing views to the tyrannical narrative. At Red Brick for Truth, we have respectfully created our own modern-day version of “First they came …”

The New World Order came first for New Zealand, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a New Zealander.

Then they came for the Australians, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t an Australian.

Then they came for the Canadians who collectively exercised their International Human Rights to oppose mandatory vaccinations, and also to fight for their rights to ply their trades without discrimination, so that they could feed their families, whilst the world stood by in impotent pose, watching and doing nothing, because they weren’t Canadians,

Then they came for the Americans and took away their constitutional right to bear arms. They also took away the citizens firearms, which their Founding Fathers had intended the citizens to use to defend their democracy against tyrannical governments, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t an American.

Then they came for the citizens of the United Kingdom, which by now was already in a state of free-fall towards totalitarianism under a One-Party system of government and by this time, there was no one left to speak up.

  1. There is no truth without having the courage to except truth. There is no understanding without the conviction to challenge governance at all levels. Tyranny will prevail if brave men & women srandby and do nothing. Open your eyes and see.
